From Initial Requirements to a Working Plan

The two primary documents used during this stage are the Product Description and Product Development Sheet. Together, they define what is being developed, what work needs to be completed, who is involved, and how the project is expected to progress.

These are working documents rather than fixed records. They are updated as decisions are made, requirements are refined, and new information becomes available.

The Two Documents That Guide Development

Product Description

The Product Description explains what the product is and what it must accomplish. Depending on the project, it may include:

Product purpose and intended users
Core functions and performance requirements
Physical dimensions and form-factor requirements
Materials, finishes, controls, and user interfaces

Product Development Sheet

The Product Development Sheet explains how the project will move forward. It can include:

Development tasks and workstreams
Responsibilities for Panasia, the client, and external partners
Required deliverables and project milestones
Dependencies between different activities
Preliminary target dates and lead times
Open questions and pending decisions
Approval points and current project status
Changes made during development

Planning Across the Product

This stage connects the different areas that must come together during development.

Product Requirements

Confirm the functions, performance targets, dimensions, user needs, and operating conditions that will guide development.

Design and Engineering

Identify the industrial, mechanical, electronic, and software work required to develop the product.

Components and Suppliers

Determine which components, materials, technologies, and supplier capabilities need to be evaluated.

Prototyping and Testing
